The "Blue Crow" katana is an old style of
Japanese blade referred to as Kogarasu Maru style. An antique Tachi from the
8th Century far predating the Katana. The blade is a 28.5 inch Bushi class
forge folded from 3 types of steel. The hamon pattern is a
straight suguha with slight peaks of midare. The hamon in the double edged
section is wide, making the double edged area almost a full temper. The blade
is relatively straight compared to the 10.5 inch curved tsuka which has a full
wrap of black lacquered samegawa, and is wrapped with a specially developed
synthetic navy colored doeskin. The doeskin has a nylon strand in the center to
prevent it from stretching too much. The Higo style fuchi, kashira, seppa and habaki are
silver plated. The menuki are Ken, an old style
blade the Kogarasu Maru was developed from. The tsuba is an antique finished
Tomoe pattern, and the saya has a two tone Ishime black and dark blue with
pearl speckles in the finish. A Tachi style blue, brown, and white sageo
finishes this remounted blade. Coloured sageo are available for an additional
charge.
