Youi Higo Katana

A simple Koshirae mounting can have an understated elegance of its own. Koshirae from the
old Higo province is known for simplistic designs, and Youi could be translated to "Simplicity". The iron Fuchi and Kashira are done in Higo motif, and the blackened Tsuba features two cut outs of Tessen (war fans). The Seppa are a matching bronze plated copper with the solid brass Habaki. The Saya has been lacquered a deep red and is accompanied with a black Sageo to match the tsuka ito. The 11 inch Tsuka has been wrapped in Japanese SIlk and has a pair of horse Menuki. The 28.5 inch Bushi 1095 blade has received a heavy repolish, bringing out a vibrant hamon against a brightly polished blade.
