Akakage Katana

The "Red Shadow" Katana is based on a 28.5 inch 1095 Bushi class blade.  The blade has received a repolish to brighten the hamon pattern.  The 11 inch tsuka core is wrapped in a special synthetic doeskin called "Tsunami Ito" developed in Japan.  It has a nylon strip in the center, ensuring the ito doesn't stretch and improving grip. It has been wrapped in a Katate-Maki over black rayskin. The saya is lacquered a dark red, the Mokko Vine fittings have been polished and blackened using an oxidizing solution, and the habaki plated with copper. The dark tones of this blade appeal to either the collector or practitioner.
