Hamidashi Wakizashi

A Hamidashi style mounting is one with a tsuba that is just barely wider than the saya and fuchi. Rarely seen in katana, it is primarily seen in tanto and some wakizashi. This wakizashi is a 20 inch Bushi Forge Folded blade that has been repolished with Japanese finger stones. The 7.5 inch tsuka core is brand new, carved from poplar wood, and then wrapped in a full sheet of stingray skin. The wrap is navy blue silk imported from Japan. The fuchi, kashira, and tsuba are buffalo horn, carved from a single block. The habaki is silver plated, and the menuki is an silver Isshu-Gin coin, a small coin struck around the 1860's in Japan. It comes with a matching premium sageo. This blade is a light and quick piece that could stand alone, or be paired as a Daisho in a set.
